Alaska Tour Days 38-43

Day 38, July 29 had us traveling back to Tok, Alaska.  It was cool and foggy when we started out but it was warm when we arrived in Tok--80!  That evening the tour provided dinner for everyone at Fast Eddies.

On July 30 we travelled to Chicken for a one night stop.  The road was hilly, winding, and rough (or so we thought until we had to go on a washboard gravel road).

Up and down we go...

You can see how rough the road became by the change in my writing.

There was no Wi-Fi, tv, or cell service at this campground.  They had a satellite phone available for emergencies.

The campground loaned out free gold pans so we could try our luck in the on site creek.

I found gold!
While in Chicken we took a walking tour of Old Town Chicken...

The next day we crossed back into Canada for a one night stay in Beaver Creek.  We stayed there on our way to Alaska on Day 10 of the tour.

Day 41, August 1, we travelled back to Whitehorse for a three night stay.  On the way to Whitehorse...

On August 2 the group visited the Yukon Wildlife Preserve.  The preserve features 10 species of northern Canadian mammals in their natural environment on over 700 acres.  Here are some of the wildlife we saw...

On August 3, Day 43, we all boarded a bus and headed to the White Pass/Skagway train for a narrated tour over the summit of White Pass and into Skagway, AK, where we had two hours to walk around the town.

This lake was beautiful even though it was a mostly cloudy day.

The bus picked us up in Skagway and drove us back to the RV park.  On the way we saw an active forest fire across the lake.  The bus driver stopped so we could take pictures of it.

Tomorrow is Day 43 and we'll travel to Teslin Lake.
