RV Rally in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada--Part 2

On Saturday, we had time to explore the town of Petrolia on our own before meeting the rest of the group for planned activities.

Petrolia is billed as "Canada's Victorian Oil Town" and is often credited with starting the oil industry in North America.  We enjoyed walking around town.

We spotted a sculpture in front of the library and noted the sculptor's name--Baird!

We tasted a Canadian butter tart and happened upon Pizza Fest in the town square.  We rested there for a bit while eating a slice of pizza and listening to live music.

Around 2:00 we all met at Victoria Hall, a National Historic Site of Canada.  Built in 1889 it currently houses the town hall and Victoria Playhouse.  We saw Shirley Valentine, a one-woman stage play featuring Nora McLellan. She was fantastic! Afterwards we all went across the street and enjoyed a wonderful meal at Actor's Casual Dining restaurant.  The food was delicious, especially the dill pickle soup.

The next day everyone was on their own to explore the area.  We had heard about some delicious French fries at the foot of the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward, Ontario, so off we went.  We were told that there are French fry trucks underneath the bridge but we had read about Original Albert's, which is just before getting to the bridge, so we gave them a try.  They did not disappoint!  I don't know what they do to their fries, but they are unlike any we have ever eaten.

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside!

The Blue Water Bridge is a twin-span international bridge across the St. Clair River that links Port Huron, Michigan, USA and Point Edward, Ontario, Canada.  Even though it was drizzling that day we walked through the park to the point.

After a quick stop at Ice Creamporium (next to Albert's), we drove out to Pinery Provincial Park on the banks of Lake Huron to see "spectacular sand dunes."  On the way we saw a sign for an herb farm and I had to stop to smell the plants.

The Pinery is wooded and has many camping and picnicking areas along with canoeing and hiking and biking trails.

We found the beach...

The beach was rocky, not sandy like an ocean beach

We saw several lean-tos set up on the beach

Finally found the dunes...

One was very tall
After all this exploring, it was time to get a quick dinner and head back to the campground.

This was one of the most fun rallies we've been to.  Mike and Michelle, the hosts, did a wonderful job arranging all the activities and meals.  Mike had a campfire going every evening and we enjoyed sitting by the fire and getting to know the other RVers.

Monday, June 4 we headed out for Sault Ste. Marie--and BEARS!
